I work in and worship at a deeply conservative church (socially and politically) and your categories seem to fit well with the people I know on a personal level. I am going to share these tiers with some of our church leadership as we continue to wrestle with what to do about the national temperature, political climate, what to say, etc... Thanks for putting so much consideration into how you approach the Trump voter - from your last few emails to your youtube videos. I think you've been expositional and gotten out of the way to let the realities explain themselves.

I hesitate to ask because of the hypersensitive times in which we live, but how does this compare for those who support Joe Biden? My intention in asking is not provoke but to gain an understanding of matters at hand.

Thank you.

Interesting read, Adam. I suspect that there are people in Tier 3 that are willing to assign some culpability to Trump for the capital riots. It's a spectrum, of course, but the tiers are useful for trying to make sense of how people think. When it comes to trying to figure out why reasonable people can develop such vastly different world views, I highly recommend Jonathan Haidt's "A Rightous Mind".

Agree with Sean. Can you share your ROM guesstimate of the percentage of Trump supporters within these 5 Tiers?

I'm totally just making this up but I'd say Tiers 1 and 2 are about 15%, Tier 3 is around 50%, and Tiers 4 and 5 are the remaining 35%.

It seems beginning to build a working model of the size of these Tiers would be beneficial to prioritize the design of mitigation steps. Any mitigation is a multi-generational commitment...which seems unlikely to sustain. This is, in effect, the work of the Church to apply both salt/light into their communities. While there can be some assistance externally from the Church...substantive change can only result from the Gospel being shared/accepted.
